Weltmusik für Chiller
Chillout- und Afrobeat-Fans, haltet euch fest: iZem ist der neue Bonobo. Der Franzose Jérémie Moussaid Kerouanton webt die federleichten Beats und jazzigen Sounds so gekonnt zusammen wie sonst nur der alte Hase Simon Green. Kein Wunder, dass Mount Kimbie einen Track des Produzenten und DJ in ihrer Radioshow gespielt haben. iZems Kompositionen besitzen den gleichen entspannten Groove wie Mount Kimbies weniger clublastige Songs, wenn auch in nicht so komplex. Nach zwei EPs hat Kerouanton im Juni sein Debütalbum Hafa veröffentlicht.
„Sadeo“, der erwähnte Track, zeigt außerdem, was das Besondere an iZems Musik ist. Er gehört nämlich laut Funkhaus Europa zu einer „jungen Global Pop Szene“, die Klänge aus Südamerika, Afrika, Südeuropa und Asien mit der für gewöhnlich als „westlich“ bezeichneten Musik vermischt. Auf „Sadeo“ zum Beispiel ist Emma Garnett zu hören, eine Sängerin aus Sierra Leone, die die Afro Soul Band Feather anführt; Yolanda Reyes aus Mexiko verziert „Belén“ mit ihrem Gesang und die Irisch-Malaysierin Aminah Dastan von Madu ist sogar bei zwei Songs dabei. Wir empfehlen, iZem und seinem Global Pop in einer ruhigen Stunde mal beide Ohren zu schenken.

Chillout and afrobeat fans, watch out: iZem is the new Bonobo. Frenchman Jérémie Moussaid Kerouanton weaves featherlight beats and jazzy sounds together so skilfully, like no one’s been able to since Simon Green. No wonder Mount Kimbie played a track by this producer/DJ on their radio show. iZem’s compositions have that same relaxed groove you may find in some of Mount Kimbie’s less club-heavy songs. After two EPs, Kerouanton released his debut album Hafa in June.
In addition, our selected track,“Sadeo”, shows what’s so remarkable about iZem’s music. According to Funkhaus Europa he’s predominantly part of the „young global pop scene“, which mixes sounds from South America, Southern Europe and Asia with music commonly referred to as „Western“ music. On “Sadeo” for example, Emma Garnett can be heard, a singer from Sierra Leone, who heads the afro-soul band Feather; Yolanda Reyes from Mexico decorates “Belén” with her vocals, and Madu’s Irish-Malaysian Aminah Dustan even features on two songs. We recommend giving both your ears the gift of a quiet night in listening to iZem’s global pop.
