Die Single ist ein erster Einblick in das dritte Studioalbum „A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships“ von The 1975, das bereits im Vorfeld geheimnisvoll angeteasert wurde.
„Give Yourself A Try“, so heißt sie also die neue Single von The 1975. Der Song wurde heute Abend bei Annie Mac auf BBC Radio1 erstmals gespielt und ist auch ab sofort im Stream auf Spotify verfügbar. Es bietet einen ersten Einblick in das dritte Studioalbum „A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships“, das im Oktober erscheinen soll. Healy erklärte im Interview zudem, dass ein weiteres Album mit dem Namen „Notes on a Conditional Form“ im nächsten Jahr folgen soll.
Der Song ist typisch für The 1975 und zeigt die Band von ihrer melancholischeren Seite. Matt Healy setzt sich in dem Song außerdem mit seiner Drogenvergangenheit auseinander und beschreibt diese im Interview auch noch als „schrecklich“. Seit einigen Wochen teasert die Band aus Großbritannien ihr neues Material mit kryptischen Poster-Designs ein. Auch für das heutige Release hat The 1975 ein dazugehöriges Poster mit den Lyrics des Songs hochgeladen.
Eigentlich war geplant, dass das dritte Studioalbum der Band aus Manchester den Namen „Music For Cars“ trägt. Dies wurde aber verworfen und wird von Healy mit den Worten erklärt: „Let’s talk about Music For Cars – I just change my mind all the time. What it was, I realised when I was doing the album before this one, any writer wants a good ending in their repertoire. The guide to do that stylistically was so potent within me and I’d always said I wanted to do three albums. I thought, I’m not going to stop doing the 1975 now. I’m not only going to do three albums. I couldn’t bare the idea of it. Music For Cars is going to be an era, then. It starts with two albums. We’ve got two albums, ‘A Brief Inquiry…’, and when I come in later in the year I’ll tell you about the other one. It’s not going to be a double-album, because that would be prog and annoying. It’ll be two completely independent statements. It’s partially because there’s too much to say to only do one record.“ Glück gehabt!
